SEC confirms end of XRP lawsuit

After five years, the long-running Ripple v. the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has finally been laid to rest. According to Commissioner Hester Pierce, the SEC can now redirect its efforts toward creating a clear regulatory framework for the U.S. crypto industry. Pierce’s attitude was echoed by SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, who added in a social media post that the agency would also focus on fostering innovation while protecting investors. Commissioner Peirce is right. With this chapter closed, we now have an opportunity to shift our energy from the courtroom to the policy drafting table. Our focus should be on building a clear regulatory framework that fosters innovation while protecting investors. #ProjectCrypto — Paul Atkins (@SECPaulSAtkins) August 11, 2025 The broader market, however, appears most interested in potential new spot XRP ETFs, with Canary Capital CEO Steven McClurg even suggesting that they could outperform Ethereum (ETH...

Image
The XRP price surged almost 12% after Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission ended their years-long legal battle, jointly dismissing appeals in a case that has loomed large over crypto regulation since 2020. According to an Aug. 7 court filing , the Second Circuit Appeals Court acknowledged the dismissal of both Ripple and the SEC’s appeals, effectively finalizing the 2023 ruling by Judge Analisa Torres. The court also noted that each party will bear its own legal costs and fees. “The end,” said Ripple’s chief legal officer Stuart Alderoty in an Aug. 7 X post. “And now back to business.” Ripple Still To Pay $125 Million Fine While Ripple will still pay a $125 million fine over institutional XRP sales—far less than the $2 billion originally sought by the SEC—t he joint dismissal means that the 2023 ruling by New York judge Analisa Torres stands as precedent. Her decision was at the heart of the appeals filed last year and ...

BlockFi’s Zac Prince has returned to work in crypto

Mike Novogratz’s Galaxy Digital has hired BlockFi founder Zac Prince as a managing director. For some reason, Novogratz thinks Prince is an excellent candidate to assist with developing Galaxy’s services. Prince was the CEO of failed digital asset lending company BlockFi. There, he nurtured close relationships with Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX and Alameda Research. Prince’s company, which once advertised high-interest payouts to customers who lent it bitcoin, ether, and stablecoins, eventually collapsed as the world learned about BlockFi’s false and misleading statements about the safety of those assets. According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, BlockFi lied about its collateral practices from March 4, 2019, to August 31, 2021, and agreed to pay $100 million in penalties for that and other misdeeds. Opinion: Why Did Trump Not Mention Ethereum and Web3 in His Speech?

Image
Author: Meng Yan Translation: WuBlockchain On July 27, during Trump’s 50-minute speech at the Bitcoin conference in Nashville, many considered it another milestone event for the crypto asset industry. However, it was noted afterward that Trump did not mention Ethereum, blockchain, or Web3 at all; the only time Vitalik was mentioned, it was later discovered to be a mishearing. Why didn’t Trump mention Web3? The exact reason is unknown; you might have to ask the person who wrote Trump’s speech, reportedly David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine. However, if you view this within the broader context of the entire crypto industry, it becomes easier to understand. In short, Trump’s speech essentially reflected the progressive Bitcoin maximalist stance. Bitcoin and Ethereum are the two leading forces in the crypto industry, often compared side-by-side. However, they are fundamentally different, representing two entirely different ideological camps: Bitcoin embodies “useless utility,” while Ethe...
