Esther Crawford was known as the executive in charge of overseeing the development and implementation of the Twitter Blue subscription service. Furthermore, she was well known by users as a photo of her sleeping in the office went viral. Signaling her commitment to the platform, and the product she was developing.

In response to the firing, Crawford has said that her “optimism and hard work was a mistake.” Conversely, stating that she is, “deeply proud of the team for building through so much noise [and] chaos.”

The move is an interesting one considering the Twitter Blue Subscription service was not only Musk’s brainchild, but among the most successful attempts at revenue generation in his new tenure. However, Crawford was a holdover from the previous regime, which could’ve impacted Musk’s ultimate decision regarding her employment.
