Worldcoin: People Line Up to Scan Their Eyeballs for Crypto ID
Sam Altman’s crypto project Worldcoin launched its mainnet and WLD token this week. The project received immense traction after it was launched. In fact, people have already started lining up to get their eyeballs scanned for Open AI CEO’s Worldcoin crypto digital ID. Altman recently tweeted,
“Day 3 of Worldcoin launch, crazy lines around the world. One person getting verified every 8 seconds now.”

Biometric Verification Process
At the moment, developers have access to the Worldcoin software development kit to create tools and applications using the project’s identity protocol, World ID. The company revealed that users have to scan their irises using Orb to be fully verified. Orb is a customized device that is creating a unique identifier. However, it does not process or store any related data locally.
The use of biometric data has managed to garner skepticism from the community, but the company has asserted that it uses AI to generate unique codes to depict scans. It also acts in accordance with local rules and regulations in every market, where an Orb has been established. At the moment, around 200 Orbs are available. The startup behind Worldcoin, Tools for Humanity, intends to make 1,500 Orbs by the end of 2023. It also wants to add the option to book appointments, rather than the pop-up feature. The Orbs are made in Germany.
According to the company’s roadmap, verification will be available in 35 cities. On the other hand, the app is available in 120 countries. The firm’s whitepaper revealed that The Orbs had scanned over 2 million people. 64% of them were from Asia and Africa, 19% were from Latin America, and 17% were from Europe.
